The Memory Distillery, constructed exclusively
for Punchdrunk's 'Grey Goose' formed part
of an immersive one-off theatrical experience.
Reached along a path through an indoor cornfield,
visitors found themselves trapped with 2 eccentric
scientists in the cramped confines of the distillery.
Forgotten memories were retrieved, triggered by coloured
liquids and incongruous objects.
Commissioned by Punchdrunk Theatrical Experiences & NPA productions 2010

In collaboration with composer Cameron Sinclair, the interior space of St Mary’s Church, Sunderland was re-configured in this site-specific work. Transformed from a safe and familiar space to the disorientating confinement of a darkened tunnel, the audience triggered sonic effects sourced from the building as they journeyed through the space. Integrated crime-prevention technology was employed to create illusion and surprise as the audience finally emerged into sound and light. Commissioned by Helix Arts and the Northamptonshire Probation Service. |
Five upright pianos were painstakingly excavated, then rebuilt in a form that stripped them of their function, focusing instead on their inner workings and the workmanship that brought them into being. Installed in the darkened, cathedral-like setting of Wapping Power Station their mechanical beauty and the haunting sounds of their death-throes filled the space. Commissioned by The Arts Council and Turner Contemporary Sound by Cameron Sinclair commissioned by SPNM. |
A series of 16 discreet, temporary signs were sited around the newly developed Spitalfields Market, London. Each text refers to the specific impacts made by the rich and diverse communities that have occupied the site since Roman times. Traces of these histories are still evident in street names and architecture, though much is buried and continues to disappear as the City encroaches. |
