Julyan’s work is evidence of a compulsion to seek out material truth and uninhabited imaginative space. Turner Contemporary

Alex Julyan is a London based artist, curator, producer, and Wellcome Trust Engagement Fellow. She works both independently and in partnership to deliver high quality public sector and independent projects, exhibitions and events. Her collaborations are informed by music, language, history, architecture and science.

Meticulously constructed from the overlooked, ephemeral and discarded stuff of our lives, her work is both meandering and cohesive, simultaneously formal and the result of chance and spontaneity. From drawing to film, object to installation and site to performance, Julyan re-shapes quotidian things; derailing their pre-ordained values and meanings by transforming them into artworks that unsettle or disarm.
